Colour Display Technology - TFT Screen Performance

The active matrix colour Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) on your Toshiba computer embodies today's most advanced flat screen technology.

The screen consists of 307,200 pixels arranged in a 640 x 480 or 3,072,000 pixels arranged in 1280 x 800 matrix depending on screen size. Each pixel consists of three individual transistors, one for each of the primary colours: red, green and blue. These 1,024,600 separately actuated transistors are contained in a single unbroken semiconductor sheet.

The advanced technology used by Toshiba to build this remarkable colour LCD PC employs the highest quality control standards. Yet, due to the complexities inherent in the manufacturing of active matrix displays, a small number of the non-conforming pixels may be apparent. A non-conforming pixel is one that does not function properly. The quality inspection Toshiba demands, limits the acceptable number of non-conforming pixels to a total of 6 per screen. That's less than two-hundredth of 1 percent of the screen population.

What does this mean to you?

Even with a spattering of non-conforming pixels, your screen provides excellent display quality. Many non-conforming pixels are detectable only by a trained technician. Others have minimal impact on the display, being visible only under certain colour and background conditions. Toshiba believes that the advantages of a highly compact high performance colour screen far outweighs the minor irritations of a few non-conforming pixels.

Screen Performance:

Toshiba computers are supplied on the basis that they will have no more than 6 nonconforming pixels on the LCD screen. This means that Toshiba will not repair or replace the LCD screen on your computer under Toshiba's warranty if the only defect is the presence of 6 or less non-conforming pixels unless they are clustered in such a way as, in Toshiba's opinion, significantly inhibits the ordinary use of the computer. In addition, scratches to the screen glass face are constituted to be abuse and are specifically excluded from warranty cover irrespective of the screen having an electronic fault. TAP's screen supplier will not provide warranty under these circumstances.

Your Statutory Rights are not affected

The Trade Practices Act 1974 and similar legislation imply certain rights and provide certain remedies to consumers that cannot be excluded. The above limitation does not affect those rights and remedies.
